Leo Valentin Theissing

Leo Valentin Theissing is a Research Fellow at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology, University of Lucerne. His work focuses on rainbow families in Switzerland, trans and queer care networks, and quantitative LGBTIQ+ survey research.

Education:

• Bachelor’s in Political Science and Spanish (University of Münster)
• Political Science Master’s with Data-Driven Journalism Track (University of Zurich)
• Current Master’s in Gender Studies and Sociology (University of Basel)

Research: Leo’s interdisciplinary approach combines ethnographic methods with quantitative analysis. His master’s thesis explored trans care networks using a caring ethnography framework. He is part of a University of Lucerne project on rainbow families led by Dr. Carole Ammann and plans to pursue a PhD on trans parenting starting in 2025.

Labs/Teams: Engaged with the Swiss LGBTIQ+ Panel (longitudinal survey) and the Department’s research initiatives on gender and social networks.
