Dr. Carole Ammann is a Research Fellow at the University of Lucerne’s Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology. Her current research, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) through an Ambizione grant, examines rainbow families and GBTIQ+ parenthood within heteronormative societal structures. She holds a PhD from the University of Basel’s Institute of Social Anthropology, where her doctoral work focused on women’s agency in Guinea (2011–2013), culminating in her book *Women, Agency, and the State in Guinea. Silent Politics* (Routledge).
Her academic journey includes positions as a junior fellow at the Walter Benjamin Kolleg, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bern’s Institute of Geography, and an SNSF postdoctoral mobility fellow at the University of Amsterdam (2020–2021), where she studied fathering. She later served as a senior researcher in ETH Zurich’s Spatial Development and Urban Policy (SPUR) group after an SNSF return grant at the University of Lucerne.
Her research interests span gender, family structures, political ethnography, and postcolonial studies. While no specific awards are listed, her work has been supported by multiple SNSF grants, reflecting its academic recognition.
