Leo Steeds is an Affiliate Scholar in the School of Social & Political Sciences at the University of Glasgow, where he is affiliated with the Department of Politics and International Relations. He holds a PhD in Politics and International Studies from the University of Warwick, an MA in International Political Economy from the same institution, and a BA Hons in Music from the University of Oxford.
His research focuses on environmental ideas in the history of political and economic thought, with a particular emphasis on Adam Smith’s contributions. He also explores contemporary environmental politics, including the Anthropocene concept and the role of economic frameworks in environmental governance. Steeds serves as an Associate Editor of the Adam Smith Review and contributes to the Adam Smith 300 project.
His publications analyze Smith’s stadial theory, ecological economics, land and labor dynamics in classical thought, and the genealogy of land as capital. These works bridge historical economic thought with modern environmental challenges, emphasizing interdisciplinary connections between political economy and ecology.
