Lennart C. Kaplan is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Göttingen's Chair of Development Economics and Global Political Economy, guest researcher at RWI Essen, and associate researcher at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy and German Institute of Development and Sustainability.
His academic background spans the Universities of Göttingen, Groningen, and Warsaw. He was a member of the research training group Globalization and Development and completed his dissertation Perils and Promises of Globalization under the supervision of Prof. Axel Dreher, Prof. Stephan Klasen, Prof. Krisztina Kis-Katos, and Prof. Martin Gassebner.
Kaplan's research centers on development economics with emphasis on international trade, development finance, and the socio-economic/political economy dimensions of development. He employs geospatial data and primary data collection in the Global South while maintaining strong focus on research ethics and the research-policy nexus. He co-organizes the Digital Development Dialogue (3D) seminar series to bridge development practice and research.
His professional experience includes World Bank consultancy, European Parliament service in Brussels, and prior work at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy.
