Lena Hann serves as Associate Professor of Public Health at Augustana College and Visiting Researcher at Uppsala University's Centre for Gender Research. She holds additional affiliations as Faculty in Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies and Scandinavian Studies programs at Augustana, and directs the Whole Person Health in Scandinavia study abroad program.
Her research centers on patient-centered pregnancy tissue viewing (PCV) in reproductive health settings, examining how public fetal imagery and abortion discourse shape patient-provider communication about the fetus. She develops clinical best practices to address internalized abortion stigma, with her 2023 manual implemented across 200+ North American clinics. Current work investigates cultural and political influences on fetal discussions in Swedish reproductive healthcare.
Hann actively contributes to abortion care advocacy through the Abortion Care Network Membership Committee and Abortion Conversation Projects grant partnership. Her professional background includes clinical roles as pregnancy options counselor, patient advocate, and sex educator in US abortion clinics. She leads international public health education via the Whole Person Health in Scandinavia program, fostering cross-cultural understanding of reproductive healthcare systems.
