Lena Röllicke is a doctoral researcher at the Global Governance Department of the WZB Berlin Social Science Center and a PhD Affiliate at the Berlin Graduate School for Global and Transregional Studies (BGTS). She is also a Visiting Researcher in the Research Department Global Governance and part of the SCRIPTS Excellence Cluster's 'Towards a Typology of Contestations' project. Her research focuses on the dynamics of affective polarisation in liberal democracies, combining theoretical-conceptual approaches with qualitative methods like interviews, text analysis, and participant observation.
Education: M.A. in Political Philosophy from Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona), B.A. in Liberal Arts and Sciences from University College Maastricht (with an exchange semester at University College London).
Research interests include affective polarisation, democratic theory, qualitative methods, political psychology, and political ideologies. Her work bridges empirical analysis and theoretical frameworks, particularly in multi-party systems and contestation dynamics.
Publications include seminal work on conceptualizing affective polarisation and analyzing political contestations. She has contributed to projects such as the GLES-project in the Democracy and Democratization Department and the European Cities and Neighbourhood Project. Her collaborations span academic institutions and interdisciplinary initiatives.
