Dr. Lena Hamaidia is a University Teacher in Translation Studies at the University of Sheffield's School of Languages, Arts and Societies. She teaches modules on translation theory, subtitling practices, and genre-specific translation approaches while leading the MA Translation Studies program development.
Research examines linguistic approaches to spoken and written language translation, particularly how pragmatic meaning is affected in subtitle adaptation. Current projects analyze semantic tensions in multilingual EU document translation and Arabic subtitling of English satire. Methodologically combines comparative syntax analysis with postcolonial translation frameworks to investigate cultural representation in translated dialogues.
