Lena Falkheden

Lena Falkheden is a Senior Lecturer in Urban Planning at Chalmers University of Technology's School of Architecture and Civil Engineering, where she serves as course manager and examiner for Sustainable Development and the Design Professions and the design studio Planning and design for Sustainable Development in a Local Context within the MPDSD programme.

Her research and teaching focus primarily on sustainable urban development, with specific interests in:

• Physical structures for sustainable development in cities of various sizes
• Earth and clay soil as building materials
• Straw as a sustainable building material
• Implementation of sustainable development principles in architectural practice
• Collaboration between research and practice in urban development

Her publication record shows a consistent focus on sustainable urban development from the late 1990s through the early 2000s, particularly examining urban structures and the application of sustainable principles at different scales. Her doctoral thesis investigated local areas as strategies for sustainable urban development using Danish case studies.

Lena Falkheden has been actively involved in research projects examining the implementation of sustainable development within the architectural profession, including the 2021 project 'Where are we headed? Implementing sustainable development within the architectural profession – experiences from 10 years of education,' funded by The Adlerbert Research Foundation.
