Lena Abrahamsson is Professor and Head of Subject in Human Work Science at Luleå University of Technology (LTU), Sweden, and serves as vice scientific leader for the future area 'Creaternity.' She is also a board member of Blekinge Institute of Technology. With an academic career spanning over two decades at LTU, she has held significant leadership positions including Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology (2019-2021) and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Science (2016-2018).
Professor Abrahamsson's research focuses on workplace, technology and organizational changes, learning, safety & health, and gender issues in industrial companies. She is particularly active in projects related to digitalization, green industrial transformation, and sustainable development, often with a gender perspective, especially in the mining and steel industry. Her research portfolio demonstrates consistent engagement with contemporary industrial challenges through interdisciplinary approaches that bridge academic theory with practical applications.
Her recent publications reveal a strong emphasis on gender dynamics in male-dominated industries, green transformation in mining, and sustainable manufacturing practices. The research shows a clear trajectory toward addressing how technological changes affect workplace structures, with particular attention to competence development needs and recruitment challenges in evolving industrial environments.
As an educator, Professor Abrahamsson teaches in the Master program Industrial Design Engineering, primarily in the courses 'Organisational development' and 'Production and organisation.' She leads a research group of 29 people and supervises doctoral students, contributing significantly to academic development in her field.
Throughout her career, Professor Abrahamsson has held numerous external appointments including membership on the Swedish Work Environment Authority's advisory council (2010-2019), the Swedish government's commission for gender equality in working life (2012-2015), and the board of FORTE (2013-2018, serving as Vice Chair 2016-2018). Her work consistently bridges academic research with practical applications in industry and policy development, demonstrating substantial impact beyond the academic sphere.
