Leila Tayeb is an Assistant Professor in Residence at Northwestern University in Qatar, with a joint appointment in the Communication Program and Liberal Arts Program. She holds a PhD in Performance Studies from Northwestern University, an MA in Performance Studies from NYU, and an MA in International Affairs from The New School. Prior to her current role, she held postdoctoral positions at NYU Abu Dhabi and Cornell University.
Her research focuses on performance and politics, sound and militarism, dance studies, Islam and the state, and state-sponsored performance, with a regional emphasis on Libya and broader MENA and Africana studies. She teaches courses such as Introduction to Performance Studies, blending interdisciplinary approaches to cultural and political analysis.
