Leila Rieder is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at Emory University, leading research on nuclear organization and gene regulation using Drosophila melanogaster. She earned a BA from Reed College (2002) and MA/PhD from Brown University (2013). The Rieder Lab investigates how specialized nuclear domains facilitate efficient gene regulation during development.
Research employs classical genetics, microscopy, and genomics to study Histone Locus Body (HLB) formation. Current projects examine initiation signals for nuclear domains, evolutionary flexibility of regulatory mechanisms, and developmental timing of domain establishment. Research has revealed novel insights into chromatin organization factors like CLAMP and MSL2.
Developed educational tools including the 'Cost-free CURE' bioinformatics curriculum. Committed to diversity in STEM through lab policies promoting inclusive mentorship and recognizing work on Indigenous lands.
