Leila Pehkonen is an Adjunct Professor and Docent at the Department of Educational Sciences, University of Helsinki, where she also serves as a supervisor in the Doctoral Programs in Cognition, Learning, Teaching and Communication, and School, Education, Society and Culture. Her research focuses on educational sciences with a strong emphasis on vocational education, mathematics education, and teacher training. She has contributed extensively to understanding numeracy in workplace contexts, special education transitions, and Nordic educational policies.
Her academic career includes supervising three major academic works and participating in prestigious projects like the Nordic Centre of Excellence on Justice through Education. She has been recognized with awards such as the 2021 Ammattikasvatuksen aikakauskirja award for outstanding research. Pehkonen actively engages in international conferences, peer review, and academic leadership roles, reflecting her dedication to advancing educational equity and quality.
