Leila Irajifar is a Senior Lecturer at the School of AUD, RMIT University, specializing in urban resilience and interdisciplinary approaches to disaster management. She holds a PhD in Urban Resilience Planning from Griffith University and has professional experience as an architect/planner in post-disaster reconstruction projects. Her research focuses on integrating smart city technologies with urban resilience strategies, particularly in the context of climate change and environmental hazards.
Leila’s academic journey includes a bachelor’s in architecture, a master’s in post-disaster reconstruction, and postdoctoral work at CMU’s Institute for Great Lakes Research. She contributed to UN-Habitat’s City Resilience Profiling Program in Barcelona and has taught courses on resilient cities, technology for social change, and climate adaptation.
Her research interests span urban planning, interdisciplinary engineering, and community-based interventions. Recent work emphasizes the application of complex systems theory to model urban resilience and the validation of resilience indices through case studies in Australia.
Leila is actively involved in supervising postgraduate research projects, including studies on smart resilience integration and post-disaster housing reconstruction. Her work bridges academic research with practical solutions for sustainable urban development.
