Leigh Johnson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics, Computer Science & Physics at Capital University, where she has taught since Fall 2009. As the current Stegemoeller Endowed Chair in Computational Studies, she spearheaded the development of a Data Science minor.

Her research focuses on statistics and data science education, particularly through active learning and data visualization. She has expanded departmental offerings with courses like Data Visualization, Introduction to Data Science, and Mathematical Statistics. Her work emphasizes improving student learning outcomes and data communication strategies.
Recent publications include studies on POGIL (Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning) in statistics classrooms and contextual understanding of sampling. These works align with her broader interests in educational methodologies and collaborative learning frameworks.

Leigh has held leadership roles in national organizations: Board member of the Consortium for the Advancement of Undergraduate Statistics Education (CAUSE), associate editor for the Journal of Statistics and Data Science Education, and elected member of the American Statistical Association (ASA) Section Executive Council. She has also served as an AP Statistics Reader and Table Leader for CollegeBoard for 15 years.
