Lefan Zhuang

Lefan Zhuang, M.D., is an Associate Clinical Professor of Transfusion Medicine in the Department of Pathology at City of Hope and serves as Medical Director of the Blood Donor Center. She holds board certifications in Transfusion Medicine, Anatomic Pathology, and Clinical Pathology. Her clinical expertise focuses on transfusion medicine and hematopathology, with a strong emphasis on stem cell mobilization and blood product management.

Dr. Zhuang earned her Medical Degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago (2012) and completed residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of California, Irvine (2013–2017), serving as Chief Resident during her tenure. She further specialized through a Transfusion Medicine fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles (2017–2018).

Her research interests center on optimizing stem cell mobilization strategies, transfusion practices in hematopoietic cell transplantation, and improving blood product safety. She has contributed to studies on plerixafor therapy in mobilization failures, post-transplant transfusion support, and apheresis complications. Dr. Zhuang is actively involved in professional organizations including the American Association of Blood Banks and the College of American Pathologists.

Publications span topics such as allogeneic stem cell donor optimization, transfusion protocols in oncologic patients, and pathogen-host interactions. Her work bridges clinical practice with translational research, emphasizing patient-centered outcomes in transfusion medicine and hematology.
