Dr. Lee Weidauer is an Associate Professor at South Dakota State University (SDSU) within the School of Health and Human Sciences. He teaches in the undergraduate exercise science program and across graduate programs, focusing on injury prevention, sarcopenia, and osteoarthritis mitigation. His research emphasizes extending the health span through diet and physical activity interventions.
Education: B.S. (2007), M.S. (2009), and Ph.D. (2012) in Exercise Science/Nutrition from SDSU. He held postdoctoral and research positions at the Ethel Austin Martin Program in Human Nutrition before becoming faculty.
Research interests include musculoskeletal health across the lifespan, nutrition-disease linkages, and public health strategies for aging populations. He leads grants funded by USDA, National Pork Board, and others, addressing topics like plant-based diets' impact on health span and stress management in farming communities.
Professional roles include Chair-elect of the NE1939 Multistate Research Group, co-coordinator of the graduate nutrition/exercise science program, and membership in the American College of Sports Medicine.
Awards include the 2022 NE1939 Research Excellence Award. His work spans collaborative projects on bone density, ACL injury recovery, and mental health in athletes and farmers.
