Medovoi's research focuses on the intersections of literature, politics, and culture, particularly in the 20th and 21st centuries. His work explores critical race theory, biopolitical theory, neoliberalism, and the environmental unconscious of far-right politics. He has published in top journals such as Cultural Critique, Social Text, and American Literary History, and has co-edited special issues on race, religion, and war.
His recent publications reflect a deep engagement with the cultural and ideological underpinnings of identity, power, and environmental crisis. Themes across his work include the biopolitics of race, secularism and political belonging, and the affective and narrative dimensions of neoliberalism and populism.
Medovoi has received significant recognition through competitive grants and fellowships:
- Principal Investigator, Mellon Grant on Religion and Secularism (2013–2016)
- Principal Investigator, Mellon Sawyer Seminar: Neoliberalism at the Neopopulist Crossroads (2020)
- Visiting Scholar, Department of Ethnic Studies, UC Berkeley (2021–2022)
He actively mentors graduate students through the SCCT program and has led major collaborative research initiatives. He is currently developing a new book on the environmental unconscious of far-right populist racism and is affiliated with the University of Arizona’s Environmental Humanities Consortium, contributing to interdisciplinary conversations on climate, culture, and justice.
