Lee Machado is a Professor of Molecular Medicine at the University of Northampton, where he serves as Faculty Research Lead and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He is affiliated with the Centre for Physical Activity and Life Sciences and Centre for Smart and Advanced Technologies. His academic credentials include a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Warwick, MRes in Bioinformatics from the University of Nottingham, and a PhD in Cancer Studies from the University of Birmingham.
His research employs cellular and molecular genetic strategies to investigate immune responses to pathogens and cancer, with key focuses on:
- Fc receptor biology
- Tumour immunology and cancer immunotherapy development
- Role of dystrophin in cancer pathogenesis
His publications demonstrate extensive work in oncology bioinformatics, immunotherapy mechanisms, and molecular diagnostics. Recent article themes include cancer classification using machine learning, Duchenne muscular dystrophy gene interactions with cancer, and epigenetic regulation in disease.
He actively supervises doctoral researchers in projects spanning ovarian cancer enzymology, Campylobacter genetics, tumor microenvironment modulation, and dystrophin-related cancer mechanisms. Grant-funded initiatives include plasma biomarker studies for multiple myeloma and microRNA profiling for cancer progression.
