Lee Jarvis is a Professor of International Politics at Loughborough University and holds honorary Adjunct Professor positions at the University of Adelaide and Honorary Professor at the University of East Anglia. His research examines security challenges such as terrorism, cyber-threats, and pandemics, focusing on their societal and policy implications. He has authored/edited 15 books and over 60 articles, with funding from ESRC, AHRC, and NATO. Jarvis co-edits Critical Studies on Terrorism and leads interdisciplinary initiatives like the Cyberterrorism Project. He actively collaborates with policymakers and communities, including a project involving Muslim communities in Eastern England creating films on 'British [Muslim] Values'.
Education: PhD (International Politics) from the University of Birmingham (2008). Leadership roles include Associate Dean for Research at the University of East Anglia's Faculty of Arts and Humanities. He currently directs Loughborough's Centre for Security Studies.
Research interests span critical security theory, counter-terrorism frameworks, and the intersections of media, law, and political discourse. His work emphasizes interdisciplinary methods and public engagement, with recent focus on pandemic politics and cyberterrorism discourse.
Professional service includes ESRC Peer Review College membership and 2023 election as British International Studies Association Trustee. His award-winning book Terrorism: A Critical Introduction remains a foundational text in the field.
Advising: Supervised 10 PhD completions and examined 18 theses globally. Grants reviewed for over 45 organizations, showcasing his extensive academic leadership and policy influence.
Key initiatives include founding the Cyberterrorism Project and directing BISA's Critical Studies on Terrorism working group, fostering global scholarly collaboration.
