Lee Bryant is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering at the University of Bath, affiliated with the Water Innovation and Research Centre (WIRC), Centre for Climate Adaptation & Environment Research (CAER), Centre for Regenerative Design & Engineering for a Net Positive World (RENEW), and the Institute of Sustainability and Climate Change. Her office is located in 4 EAST SOUTH 3.05.
Her research specializes in biogeochemical cycling within aquatic systems, with emphasis on sediment-water fluxes, oxygen dynamics, and nutrient/metal transport in lakes, reservoirs, and oceans. Key methodologies include field-based sampling, microsensor technology, and voltammetric analysis to study turbulence effects, hypolimnetic oxygenation, and seasonal algal blooms. Current projects investigate oxygen injection for ocean dead zones, drought impacts on reservoir metal cycling, and urban agriculture in Freetown.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals strong focus on sustainable water management solutions across freshwater and marine environments. Her work consistently bridges fundamental biogeochemical processes with practical engineering applications for drinking water security and climate resilience, particularly through engineered aeration systems and sensor network optimization.
Dr. Bryant actively supervises doctoral students and leads multiple funded projects including:
- Breathing life into ocean dead zones (The Academy of Medical Sciences, 2025-2026)
- Seasonal drought effects on trace metal cycling (The Royal Society, 2024-2026)
- Urban agriculture in Freetown (The British Academy, 2022-2024)
She directs research within the Water, Environment and Infrastructure Research (WEIR) group, utilizing advanced field instrumentation and collaborating with international partners on projects spanning from UK reservoirs to Sierra Leonean informal settlements. Current work integrates hydrodynamic modeling with real-world sensor deployments to address emerging challenges in water security under climate change.
