Leanne Hodson is a Professor of Metabolic Physiology and BHF Senior Basic Science Research Fellow at the University of Oxford’s Radcliffe Department of Medicine. She leads the Metabolic Research Group alongside Professor Fredrik Karpe, focusing on understanding metabolic changes with nutritional state and their implications for obesity-related diseases. Affiliated with Green Templeton College, her work emphasizes liver fat metabolism’s role in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), a key risk factor for cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Her research employs human in vivo/ex vivo models and stable-isotope tracers to probe metabolic pathways.
Education: BSc (Hons), PhD (details unspecified). Research interests include metabolic physiology, endocrinology, and translational therapies for metabolic disorders. Her recent studies explore estrogen’s impact on liver metabolism, GLP-1 agonist therapies, and dietary influences on hepatic lipid accumulation. Awards include prestigious BHF fellowships and a Gridlers’ HRC Career Fellowship.
Her group’s work integrates clinical and basic science approaches to identify novel therapeutic targets for metabolic diseases. Current projects investigate metabolic partitioning in the liver and the mechanistic links between hepatic fat accumulation and systemic metabolic dysfunction.
