Dr Leanne Dwan is a Research Fellow at the Sydney School of Health Sciences, part of the University of Sydney's Faculty of Medicine and Health. She serves as Director of the Paediatric Gait Analysis Service of NSW at Children's Hospital, Westmead. Her expertise lies in clinical biomechanics and early career research, focusing on movement disorders and orthopedic health in children.
Leanne holds a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science, a Master's in Biomechanics (focusing on upper limb movement in children), and a PhD from 2021 investigating hip health and treatment outcomes in Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease (CMT) and Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis (SCFE). Her work emphasizes translating clinical questions into actionable insights for pediatric care.
Her research interests include biomechanical analysis of gait, clinical motion assessment, and innovative orthotic solutions using 3D printing. Current projects involve the VULCAN Project (upper limb clinical assessments) and a MRFF grant for cerebral palsy treatment data infrastructure. She is affiliated with the Humpty Dumpty Paediatric Gait Analysis Laboratory and the Neuropathy Research Group (NRG).
Leanne has been recognized with awards such as the Elizabeth Rosenthal Scholarship (PhD), Paulette Isabel Jones Scholarship (2020), and a Western Sydney Local Health District KickStarter Grant (2023-2024). Her work spans collaborations like the FAST Study Group, addressing musculoskeletal and neuromuscular challenges in children. She contributes to grants and advisory roles, blending clinical practice with academic research. Key lab affiliations include the Kids Neuroscience Centre and Sydney Musculoskeletal Health.
