Dr. Leanda McKenna is a Senior Lecturer at the Curtin School of Allied Health, Faculty of Health Sciences, Curtin University. She holds a BAppSc in Physiotherapy, a Master's in Sports Physiotherapy, and a PhD from Curtin University, where her doctoral research examined shoulder pain in adolescent swimmers.
Her research focuses on musculoskeletal pain mechanisms, particularly shoulder biomechanics in athletes and pregnancy-related conditions. Key areas include scapular kinematics, pain prediction models, therapeutic interventions for mastitis, and reliability of clinical measurement tools. She employs diverse methodologies from clinical trials to systematic reviews.
Recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on optimizing physiotherapy interventions through evidence-based approaches. Her work integrates sports science, women's health, and rehabilitation, frequently utilizing ultrasound imaging and quantitative sensory testing to evaluate treatment efficacy.
Dr. McKenna maintains clinical practice alongside academic work and serves as a reviewer for Physical Therapy in Sport and Musculoskeletal Science & Practice journals. She is a member of the Australian Physiotherapy Association.
