Leah Wilson serves as Associate Director of the Appalachian Center for Civic Life and Director of the Bonner Scholars Program at Emory & Henry College, holding the secondary title of Professor of Civic Innovation. Her work centers on civic engagement and community development within the Appalachian region, connecting students with hands-on service opportunities.
Education:
- B.S. Mathematics and B.A. Religion from High Point University
- M.Ed. Special Education from Arizona State University
Her research and professional focus spans Civic Innovation and Community Engagement, with deep expertise in Education systems, particularly Special Education and STEM pedagogy. She integrates Appalachian cultural context into civic leadership development, emphasizing place-based learning and social justice.
As Director of the Bonner Scholars Program, she mentors students in sustained community service partnerships while managing program operations. Her background includes eight years as a special education, math, and STEM teacher through Teach For America, complemented by athletic coaching experience in cross country, soccer, and track & field.
Leah actively promotes outdoor stewardship through trail running and mountain activities, residing on a cattle farm in her childhood community of Damascus, Virginia after extensive international travel across 36 countries.
