Leah Renold is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at Texas State University. She holds a doctorate in Modern South Asian History from the University of Texas at Austin (1999). Her research focuses on South Asian History, the History of Religion, Nonviolence, and Social Justice, with a particular emphasis on the Banaras Hindu University and Mahatma Gandhi. She currently leads a research project on the environmental history of the Ganges River during the colonial period. Dr. Renold has lived in India for over seven years and directs the Texas State Faculty-Led Education Abroad program in India.
Her teaching includes courses such as World Civilizations to 1500, Gandhi and Non-violence, and History of India. She serves as faculty advisor for the Indian Students Association and co-created the Peace and Social Justice Minor at Texas State.
Dr. Renold’s publications explore intersections between religion, education, colonial policies, and nationalism. Her work includes analyses of Gandhi’s ideological conflicts, Hindu-Muslim relations, and the historical role of educational institutions in India’s independence movement.
Her advising and program coordination reflect her commitment to global education and social justice initiatives. She actively contributes to academic and community programs linking Texas State with Indian academic institutions.
