Leah Gordon is the Harry S. Levitan Director of Education and an Associate Professor of Education at Brandeis University. She holds a joint Ph.D. in History and Education from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. from Brown University. Her research focuses on 20th-century U.S. history, particularly the history of education, intellectual history, social science and policy, and racial/class inequality in modern America.

Her first book, From Power to Prejudice: The Rise of Racial Individualism in Midcentury America (2015), won the 2016 Linda Eisenmann Prize. She is currently working on Imagining Opportunity: Education and Equality in Modern America (under contract with UChicago Press), examining debates over schooling and equality since the 1930s.

Gordon’s work bridges historical analysis with contemporary educational policy, emphasizing intersections between intellectual movements and social justice. Her grants include support from the National Academy of Education and the American Council of Learned Societies.
