Leah Aronowsky is an Assistant Professor at the Columbia Climate School and Co-Director of the Undergraduate Special Concentration and Major in Sustainable Development. A historian of science and environmental history, she explores intersections of climate science, policy inaction, and energy history.
- Education: PhD in History of Science (Harvard University, 2018), BA with high honors (Wesleyan University, 2010)
- Prior Positions: Postdoctoral Fellow (Columbia Society of Fellows in the Humanities), Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow (University of Illinois Environmental Humanities)
Her research examines historical failures in U.S. climate policy, particularly during the 1970s energy crisis. She has published in Critical Inquiry, Environmental History, and Environmental Humanities, while contributing to public discourse through The New York Review of Books, The Nation, and other outlets.
Scientific Awards:
- Rachel Carson Prize (2019) – Best dissertation in environmental history
