Lea Ypi is Professor of Political Theory at the London School of Economics and Honorary Professor of Philosophy at the Australian National University. She holds a PhD from the European University Institute and was a Post-Doctoral Prize Research Fellow at Nuffield College, Oxford. Her work bridges political theory, Marxism, critical theory, and Kantian philosophy, with a focus on freedom, justice, and historical transitions.

She has received prestigious awards such as the Royal Society of Literature Ondaatje Prize and the British Academy Prize. Her teaching includes courses on Marx, Kant, and political theory. Ypi’s work has sparked international debate, particularly around her memoir Free, which critiques both communist and capitalist systems while reflecting on personal and collective trauma in post-dictatorship Albania.
