Lawrence Smith

Lawrence Smith is a postdoctoral researcher in the Robotic Materials Department at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems (MPI-IS), Stuttgart. He earned his PhD and MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo. Between his degrees, he worked as an engineering consultant specializing in medical device design.

His research focuses on computational design of electrostatic soft actuators and energy harvesting systems using soft electrostatic transducers. He integrates practical experiments with numerical modeling in his work. His GitHub repositories include tools for finite element analysis, image processing, and nodal data reorganization.
