Lawrence Palinkas

Lawrence Palinkas is a Clinical Professor at the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). A medical anthropologist by training, he is a leading expert in health services research, implementation science, behavioral health, and community-based participatory research. His work focuses on improving mental health service delivery for children, adolescents, and underserved populations, as well as addressing health disparities related to climate change, disasters, and extreme environments.

Palinkas’s research spans preventive medicine, cross-cultural health, and the implementation of evidence-based practices. He has conducted groundbreaking studies on psychosocial adaptation in isolated environments such as Antarctica and space analogs, HIV and substance abuse prevention in Mexico, and mental health needs of older adults and refugee populations. His current work emphasizes the health impacts of climate change and innovations in public health delivery during crises like the COVID-19 pandemic.
His recent publications reflect a strong trend in mixed-methods and implementation research, particularly in HPV vaccination strategies, child mental health, and climate-related health disparities. These works emphasize community engagement, equity, and practical solutions for underserved populations.
