Lawrence M. Principe is the Drew Professor of the Humanities and Director of the Singleton Center for the Study of Premodern Europe at Johns Hopkins University. He holds a dual PhD in History of Science (Johns Hopkins) and Organic Chemistry (Indiana University). His research focuses on late medieval and early modern science/technology, particularly the history of alchemy/chemistry and science-theology intersections. He teaches courses on premodern science, the Scientific Revolution, and science-religion dynamics, alongside specialized graduate seminars. Principe employs both traditional historical methods and experimental replication of historical alchemical processes in modern labs to bridge theory and practice. He authored key monographs like *The Transmutations of Chymistry* and popular books such as *The Secrets of Alchemy*. His current work involves editing/translation of 14th-century alchemist John of Rupescissa's works.
