Lawrence Fong

Lawrence Fong, MD is the Efim Guzik Distinguished Professor in Cancer Biology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He leads the Cancer Immunotherapy Program, co-directs the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy at UCSF, and co-leads the Cancer Immunology Program at the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. As a physician-scientist in the Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology, he directs both a translational research program and a research lab, focusing on cancer immunotherapy for over 20 years.

His research explores the mechanisms of clinical response and resistance to immunotherapies, including FDA-approved treatments like sipuleucel-T and immune checkpoint inhibitors. The Cancer Immunotherapy Program under his leadership conducts early-phase, high-risk clinical trials across multiple disease indications and supports mechanistic studies through a translational laboratory analyzing patient samples.
