معرفی
Dr. Eric Small is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), School of Medicine. He is a leading clinical and translational researcher in advanced prostate cancer.
- B.S. in Biology, Stanford University (1980)
- M.D., Case Western Reserve University (1985)
- Residency and Fellowship in Internal Medicine and Cancer Research at Beth Israel Hospital and UCSF
Dr. Small's research focuses on clinical and translational aspects of advanced prostate cancer, including the development of novel agents targeting the androgen receptor (e.g., abiraterone, apalutamide) and immunotherapies (e.g., sipuleucel-T, ipilimumab). His work emphasizes understanding resistance mechanisms, particularly through genomic and epigenomic studies of metastatic disease. He has led major initiatives such as the Stand Up to Cancer/Prostate Cancer Foundation Dream Team.
His extensive publication record, particularly in high-impact journals from 2023–2025, reflects a strong focus on resistance mechanisms, lineage plasticity, genomic characterization, and clinical trial outcomes in metastatic and castration-resistant prostate cancer. His work integrates genomics, transcriptomics, and clinical data to advance precision oncology.
Scientific Awards:
- Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society (1984)
- UCSF Division of Hematology-Oncology Faculty Research Award (2001)
- Richard L. Schilsky CALGB Award for Clinical Research (2011)
- UCSF Academic Senate Faculty Research Lecture in Clinical Science (2011)
- Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (FASCO) (2015)
Dr. Small holds significant leadership roles, including Co-Leader of the UCSF Prostate Cancer Program and Chief Scientific Officer of the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. He serves on the ASCO Board of Directors and chairs multiple external advisory boards. He has been Principal Investigator on major grants, including a $10 million SU2C/PCF award, and has mentored numerous collaborators and trainees through large multi-institutional research teams.
He is actively involved in national and international consensus efforts, such as the Advanced Prostate Cancer Consensus Conference (APCCC), shaping clinical guidelines and identifying future research directions.
