Laurie Ohlms, MD is an Associate in the Department of Otolaryngology and Communication Enhancement at Boston Children's Hospital and serves as Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology at Harvard Medical School. She practices across multiple locations including Boston, Lexington, Peabody, and Waltham, Massachusetts, providing specialized care for children with otolaryngologic conditions.
Dr. Ohlms received her undergraduate education at Quincy College in 1981, followed by her medical degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1985. She completed her internship and residency at Baylor College of Medicine Affiliated Hospitals in Houston, TX, finishing her residency in 1991. She then pursued a fellowship in Pediatric Otolaryngology at Boston Children's Hospital, which she completed in 1992.
Dr. Ohlms specializes in pediatric otolaryngology with a particular focus on children with general otolaryngologic problems, especially those with Down syndrome. Her research interests include otolaryngologic issues in patients with Down syndrome and Ichthyosis. With over three decades of clinical experience, she has contributed significantly to the field through numerous publications spanning pediatric hearing disorders, congenital anomalies, and management of complex otolaryngologic conditions in children.
Her work demonstrates a consistent focus on improving diagnostic approaches and treatment outcomes for children with hearing loss, craniofacial anomalies, and genetic syndromes affecting the ear, nose, and throat. Dr. Ohlms has published on diverse topics including superior semicircular canal dehiscence, management of children with CHARGE association, and the otologic manifestations of various genetic conditions.
Dr. Ohlms is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology. Her clinical practice spans multiple locations in Massachusetts, serving a large pediatric population with comprehensive otolaryngologic care.
