Dr. Volk's research focuses on pediatric airway disorders, voice-related quality of life assessment, and medical simulation. His work includes developing protocols for safe airway procedures during the pandemic, improving communication for tracheostomy patients, and validating assessment tools for pediatric voice disorders. He has made significant contributions to understanding subglottic stenosis management and surgical simulation for crisis resource management training.
Analysis of Dr. Volk's publication record reveals a strong emphasis on practical clinical solutions for complex pediatric airway problems, with increasing focus on simulation-based training and quality of life assessment in recent years. His work bridges otolaryngology, critical care, and medical education, reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of modern pediatric care.
Dr. Volk is actively involved in medical education at Harvard Medical School and Boston Children's Hospital, where he contributes to resident and fellow training. His work in simulation-based learning has been particularly influential in developing crisis resource management skills among otolaryngology trainees.
As part of Boston Children's Hospital's Department of Otolaryngology and Communication Enhancement, Dr. Volk collaborates with a large multidisciplinary team including 16 otolaryngologists, 19 physician assistants, 2 nurse practitioners, 38 audiologists, and 53 speech language pathologists to provide comprehensive care for children with head and neck conditions.
