Laurie Grigg is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Norwich University's College of Arts & Sciences. She teaches courses in Environmental Science, Geology, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), including Energy and the Environment, Freshwater Ecosystems, and Oceanography.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Physical Geography, University of Oregon
- M.A. in Physical Geography, University of Oregon
- B.A. in Geology, Colorado College
Dr. Grigg's research focuses on reconstructing past climate and ecosystem changes through lake sediment core analysis, while also examining modern interactions between climate, sedimentation, and productivity. Her fieldwork spans Vermont lakes and the Pacific Northwest, supported by NSF-EPSCoR grants that involve student researchers presenting at professional meetings.
Her recent publications highlight Holocene climatic and ecological variability, hydroclimate changes in eastern North America, and millennial-scale temperature gradients in the western North Atlantic. These works integrate isotope analysis, pollen data, and sedimentological studies to advance understanding of long-term environmental dynamics.
Professional Leadership:
- Vice President, Vermont Geological Survey
- Board of Trustees, Vermont chapter of The Nature Conservancy
Dr. Grigg actively mentors senior research projects on water quality, climate change, and sedimentation in Vermont lakes, fostering student engagement in professional scientific communities.
