Laurent Salmon

Laurent Salmon is a Professor at the Université Paris-Saclay, serving as Director of the Bioorganic and Bioinorganic Chemistry Team (ECBB/ICMMO) within the Institute of Molecular Chemistry and Materials of Orsay (ICMMO). He also directs the Master 2 Professional Program in Environmental Pollution and Management (PCGE). His research focuses on carbohydrate-based inhibitors targeting enzymes involved in sugar metabolism, particularly enzymes related to Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Candida albicans, and Trypanosoma cruzi. Key topics include phosphomimetic inhibitors, enzyme inhibition mechanisms, and biosensor development for cancer biomarkers.

• Synthesis of aldohydroxamic acids and sugar analogues
• Inhibition of phosphoglucose isomerases and aldose-ketose isomerases
• Development of electrochemical biosensors for disease biomarkers

Teaching: Laurent teaches courses in protein chemical modifications, enzymatic reaction kinetics, biogeochemistry, and environmental pollutants at the undergraduate and graduate levels. His academic roles include coordinating the Master 2 programs in Organic Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Chemistry.

Labs & Teams: He leads the ECBB team, which specializes in bioorganic and bioinorganic chemistry, with a focus on enzyme inhibition and drug discovery. His work integrates experimental synthesis, structural biology, and computational modeling to advance biomedical applications.
