Lumley holds degrees from the University of Cambridge, the Architectural Association (AA), and Yale University, where he also taught as the Bass Scholar. His work and research interests emphasize materiality, including a noted affinity for asphalt and expanding foam, alongside architectural pedagogy and urban-scale design challenges.
