Laurence Giraud is a Lecturer at the University of the West of Scotland's School of Education and Social Sciences. She holds a dual background in English Language & Literature (University of Jean Monnet, France) and Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Saint Andrews College, Glasgow). Her career includes teaching roles at institutions like the University of Regina (Canada) and University of Strathclyde, alongside establishing the Languages section at UWS in 1990. Currently, she oversees Global Opportunities for languages, managing student mobility programs and fostering partnerships with European institutions (Czech Republic, Belgium, Norway, etc.).
Key research focuses include contemporary French socio-cultural dynamics, Scottish language policy implementation (1+2 initiative), and pedagogical strategies for language education. She has published extensively on international mobility impacts and teacher training challenges. Laurence also serves as an External Examiner for multiple universities, including Dundee and Glasgow Caledonian (2016-2020).
In 2022, she secured UWS's membership in the Comenius Association, strengthening intercultural educational exchanges. Her awards include a £1k G21C award (2010) and a PBS research grant (2001) for technology-enhanced learning.
