Dr. Julie Clark is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology and Social Policy at the University of the West of Scotland (UWS), affiliated with the School of Education and Social Sciences. She leads the DecarboN8 network’s research on transport modal shift and social policy impacts. Previously, she managed the award-winning GoWell East Programme, focusing on urban regeneration and the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Her work integrates applied social research with policy development, emphasizing collaboration between academia, government, and communities.
Her research spans urban policy, sustainability, health/wellbeing, and transport equity. Notable projects include Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council-funded decarbonization studies and ESRC-funded doctoral training. Julie’s expertise aligns with UN SDGs addressing sustainable cities, health, and climate action.
Awarded the China-Scotland Business Award (2023) and Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (2011), she also contributes to policy advisory roles, including the Scottish Government’s Gypsy/Traveller accommodation steering group. Her grants include EPSRC and ESRC funding, and she actively engages in public lectures and media commentary on urban issues.
