Lauren Mathews is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of North Texas (UNT), currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Higher Education. She holds an MS from the University of Texas at Dallas and a BS from Texas Christian University. Her primary roles include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in speech-language pathology, supervising students, and clinical work at UNT’s Speech and Hearing Clinic and Kristen Farmer Autism Center.
Her research focuses on Autism Spectrum Disorder, particularly non-verbal individuals with Theory of Mind and auditory processing challenges. She spearheaded UNT’s Neurodiversity Initiative, developing programs like UNT ENGAGE, UNT EPIC, and Eagle Chat to support neurodivergent students. Mrs. Mathews has received the Burtis-Vogel/Elkins Community Service Award (2023) for her work on UNT EPIC, alongside TSHA’s Award of Honor and multiple recognition certificates.
Her clinical experience spans pediatric medical facilities, home health agency leadership, and advocacy roles in professional associations like TSHA and ASHA. Her efforts bridge academic, clinical, and community support for neurodivergent populations.
