Lauren Hayward is a Teaching Faculty member at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Waterloo. She holds a PhD (2017) and MSc (2012) from the University of Waterloo, alongside a BSc in Physics and Computer Science from the University of Manitoba (2011).
Her research focuses on computational quantum matter physics, particularly leveraging numerical methods to explore phases of quantum many-body systems and integrating machine learning into condensed matter theory. She is actively involved in educational outreach, curriculum development, and co-hosts the podcast Conversations at the Perimeter, which highlights scientific efforts to decode the universe.
At Perimeter Institute, she leads academic programs and teaches courses in statistical mechanics, condensed matter theory, and machine learning. Her recent seminars, such as Machine Learning for Many-Body Physics (2022/2023), emphasize interdisciplinary approaches to theoretical physics. She encourages prospective students to apply to the Perimeter Scholars International (PSI) masters program.
