Lauren Brookman-Frazee

Lauren Brookman-Frazee is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine. She is actively affiliated with multiple research centers, including the IN STEP Children's Mental Health Research Center, UC San Diego ACTRI Dissemination and Implementation Science Center, San Diego LEND, and the Child & Adolescent Services Research Center (CASRC). She is also a key faculty member in the SDSU/UC San Diego Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology.

Her research is centered on implementation science and community-partnered research, with a strong focus on improving the delivery of mental health services for children, particularly those with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities. Her work emphasizes evidence-based practices, cultural competence, and stakeholder engagement in real-world settings such as schools and clinics.

Dr. Brookman-Frazee has received numerous honors, including the 2023 UC San Diego Inclusive Excellence Award, the 2023 Faculty Champion of Diversity, the 2017 Faculty Integrity Award, and the 2016 Transformational Contribution Award from the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies. She was also a 2010-2011 Implementation Research Institute Fellow funded by the National Institute of Mental Health.

She has secured major grants, including a $12 million NIMH-funded center to improve child mental health service delivery. Her research has been highlighted in media coverage on improving access to autism services and translating scientific discoveries into practice.

Dr. Brookman-Frazee actively mentors students and early-career researchers, particularly through her involvement in the Joint Doctoral Program. She collaborates extensively with a network of researchers across UCSD, UC Davis, UCLA, and USC, including notable co-authors such as Gregory Aarons, Nicole Stadnick, and Aubyn Stahmer.

She is involved in several major research initiatives, including the 4KEEPS Study and the AIM HI TEAMS Study, both aimed at enhancing service implementation and workforce development in child mental health.
