معرفی
Laura Wilson is a Research Fellow at Newcastle University's Institute of Genetic Medicine within the Faculty of Medical Sciences, specializing in prostate cancer research. She has maintained a consistent research profile since 2011, primarily collaborating with Professor Rakesh Heer's research group.
Her research focuses on the role of glycosylation pathways in prostate cancer progression and metastasis, with particular expertise in sialylation enzymes (ST3Gal1, ST6GAL1), FUT8-mediated fucosylation, and O-glycosylation modifications. She has made significant contributions to understanding how glycan modifications influence tumor immunity through Siglec ligand interactions and how these pathways can be therapeutically targeted.
Wilson's recent work (2023-2025) demonstrates a clear progression toward identifying specific glycosylation enzymes as therapeutic targets in prostate cancer. Her publications reveal a sophisticated understanding of how post-translational modifications of cell surface proteins affect tumor growth, metastasis to bone, and immune evasion mechanisms. The consistent appearance of her work in high-impact prostate cancer research indicates her contributions are recognized as significant within the field.
She has also contributed to prostate stem cell biology, developing human prostate organoid models and investigating the role of stem cells in prostate development and cancer initiation. Her early work (2011-2013) established her expertise in prostate stem cell characterization and lineage tracking.
