Laura Vītola

Laura Vītola is a Research Fellow at Riga Technical University (RTU), affiliated with the Faculty of Civil and Mechanical Engineering and the Institute of Sustainable Building Materials and Engineering Systems. She holds a PhD in Engineering and Technology from RTU (2024), focusing on geopolymers for sustainable building materials. Her research emphasizes sustainable construction, industrial waste recycling, and bio-composites. She has conducted international collaborations at institutions like Vilnius Gediminas Technical University and Brunel University. With 25 Scopus-indexed publications, her work spans alkali-activated binders, bio-composites, and waste valorization. Notably, she received the L'ORÉAL-UNESCO Award for Women in Science (2022). Laura has supervised 8 bachelor’s and 1 master’s theses and maintains active roles in scientific councils and international projects.

Her research trends highlight innovative uses of industrial by-products and agricultural waste in construction materials, with a focus on geopolymers, bio-composites, and sustainable alternatives to traditional binders. Articles often explore material characterization, thermal properties, and environmental impact. Grants and fellowships have supported her work in Lithuania, Spain, and the UK. Laura’s expertise extends to 3D printing materials and pore structure analysis via micro-CT scans.
