Dr. Laura Vietti is an Assistant Research Scientist in the Department of Geology and Geophysics at the University of Wyoming. Her work focuses on taphonomic analysis of vertebrate fossils using interdisciplinary techniques.
- Education: PhD in Geology (2014) and BS in Geology & Geophysics (2006) from the University of Minnesota and University of Wyoming, respectively.
Dr. Vietti's research integrates molecular biology and surface metrology to study microbial decay and bone weathering. Key areas include marine paleontology, taphonomy, and microbial community analysis.
Her recent publications (2009–2014) examine framboidal sulfides, bone weathering quantification, and metagenomic studies of whale-fall ecosystems. Notable trends include interdisciplinary applications of 3D data in taphonomy and microbial degradation mechanisms.
Dr. Vietti collaborates with students like J.A. Bailey, E. Ricci, and S.S. Greer. Her work has been presented at conferences including the North American Paleontological Convention and Geological Society of America meetings.
