Laura Tunbridge

Laura Tunbridge is a Professor of Music at the University of Oxford and Henfrey Fellow and Tutor in Music at St Catherine's College, Oxford, UK. Her academic career includes roles as Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester and Lecturer at the University of Reading. She has held visiting positions, including at Columbia University (2010–2011).

Education: PhD in Musicology (Princeton University, 2002); MA in Musicology (University of Nottingham, 1997); BA (Hons.) in Music (University of Oxford, 1996).

Research focuses on Chamber Music, Opera Studies, and the works of composers such as Beethoven, Schubert, and Schumann. She explores themes like reception studies, transatlantic cultural exchanges, and 'Late Style' in music. Recent grants include a Leverhulme Trust fellowship for a project on the social and sonic history of the string quartet.

Awards include the Leverhulme Major Research Fellowship (2019–2022) and recognition as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2012). She has served on panels for the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the Royal Musical Association, and the Grove Music Editorial Board. She edited the Journal of the Royal Musical Association (2013–2018) and contributes to Music Analysis.

Key activities include organizing conferences on topics like 'Song beyond the nation' and 'Musical League of Nations.' She has delivered keynote lectures globally, including at the University of Tübingen, Graz, and Notre Dame.
