Laura Tolnov Clausen

Laura Tolnov Clausen is an Associate Professor at the University of Agder's Department of Global Development and Planning, specializing in renewable energy governance and public participation processes. With a PhD from Roskilde University, her research examines nature-society-technology relations with focus on sustainability, democracy, and energy transitions.

Her research explores public participation in environmental planning, particularly in wind power development in Norway, Scotland and Denmark. Current projects investigate energy democracy, community acceptance of renewables, and the intersection of renewable energy with rural development. She leads the ENERGIX project WINDPLAN (2018-2022) and WINDREG (2023-2027), examining offshore wind development and regional energy justice.

Dr. Clausen's publications analyze spatial dimensions of public participation in wind turbine planning, rural development models based on renewable energy, and post-construction community acceptance processes. She employs action research approaches to study social learning in sustainability transitions.
