Dr. Laura Strolin is a postdoctoral researcher and KiTE fellow at the Institute of Prehistory and Protohistory, Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel. Her work focuses on zooarchaeology, analyzing faunal assemblages from Neolithic sites in northwest Arabia to reconstruct herding practices, community organization, and ritual behaviors. She employs cutting-edge methods like stable isotope analysis and palaeoproteomics to decode ancient human-animal relationships.
Her academic journey spans institutions including the University of Geneva, the Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology (ICAC), and collaborations with international missions in Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Australia. Current projects investigate early pastoralism in Saudi Arabia's Neolithic period, emphasizing the cultural significance of animals in prehistoric societies.
Dr. Strolin's expertise stems from osteological studies at the Natural History Museum in Geneva and fieldwork with the Italian Mission to Oman (IMTO) at Salūt. She bridges zooarchaeology with broader archaeological narratives, contributing to understanding socio-economic transformations and environmental interactions in ancient communities.
As a KiTE fellow, she received prestigious postdoctoral support through Kiel University's program for emerging researchers. Her work engages with interdisciplinary networks like Kiel Life Science (KLS) and KiNSIS (Kiel Nano, Surface and Interface Science), reflecting Kiel University's commitment to cross-cutting research themes.
