Laura E. Stephens is a Senior Adjunct Lecturer in the Psychology Department at St. Francis College. She holds a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Hawaii – Hilo and a Ph.D. in Cognitive, Social & Developmental Psychology from the New School for Social Research (NSSR). Her research focuses on gender inequality, infrahumanization of women, and the social construction of gender-related language and oppression. She critically examines policies, social media influence, and communication models through a gender lens.

Her work explores the implications of patriarchal structures on violence against women and advocates for equitable policies. As Co-Chair of UN Women USA–NY’s Advocacy Committee and a Board member, she engages in international dialogues on gender equality through platforms like the Committee on the Status of Women, collaborating with governments and NGOs to advance women’s rights globally.
She is also a member of the American Psychological Association Division 35, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to social justice issues.
